As you may or may not know, the industry standard percentage rate that an agent/booker receives for booking a performer is 20-25% ( CHRISTIANCOMIC.COM'S RATE IS 20%, SLIGHTLY MORE ONLY IF WE WORK WITH ANOTHER AGENT). However, we feel it is important for potential clients to know that there are some agencies, usually under the guise of "buy/sell" or some other "spin" name, who regularly take 50% of a performer's money (sometimes less, but VERY seldom). We feel that this is very unfair, not only to the performer who does the brunt of the work in dealing with airports, hotels & long drives, setting up the performance etc... but it is also unfair to the client, as their money is often not going to a performer worth the fee paid, but "the lowest bidder," or the entertainer willing to work for 1/2 of what the client will pay. This policy is also unfair to other agencies who take an amount of no more than 20%, as the booker who takes 50% can underbid other agents for the same performer, and still make more money!
These agencies are able to get away with these practices because there is no organized union to govern or monitor such policies. And many performers will work for these agencies either because they need the work or because they are inexperienced and cannot get work with other agents.
In an effort to motivate these agencies to start taking a fair percentage, we at CHRISTIANCOMIC.COM would like to first encourage potential clients to only work with agencies that take no more than 20-25%, and to make sure that it says so on the contract. If the agency will not put their percentage in writing, and/or if they attempt to "spin" the idea in any way as to how they supposedly "add money to the performer's price" or that they are not an agency, they are a "buy/sell".....Or how, "they take more because they put more money into their promotion than other agents," please be aware that these are common "stock lines" used by such agencies.
Also, please take the time to give us your opinion on this matter. We hope to present these agencies with comments that would motivate them to adjust their contracts so as to be fairer to everyone.

We'd like to know what you think about agencies that take up to 50% of a performer's money.. Please E MAIL your comments so we can share your thoughts with other visitors.
